Carl out wide for Northern Ireland

Carl Winchester's sixth cap for Northern Ireland under-21's ended in defeat as they lost 2-0 to England in a friendly international at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road.

The Latics' teenager (pictured) played for the opening hour on the right of midfield and gave a steady performance.

England's opening goal came in first-half stoppage time, a near-post header from Connor Wickham following a Jordan Henderson free kick.

They sealed victory with 14 minutes left through a penalty from substitute Ben Afobe after the Arsenal striker picked himself after being brought down by keeper Conor Devlin.

The match also featured three other Latics' loanees - Matthew Lund, Ben Amos and Sam Johnstone.
