Wright spot of bother for Latics

Latics found themselves 1-0 down at half-time in their bottom-of-the-table npower League One match against Colchester United at Boundary Park.

Drey Wright gave the visitors the lead after he punished a mistake from keeper Dean Bouzanis.

Latics made a bright start and in the opening minute a right-wing cross from Lee Croft clipped the top of the crossbar.

They came close to taking a 12th minute lead when keeper Sam Walker palmed out Jose Baxter's inswinging corner and Lee Barnard fired the loose ball into the side netting.

Robbie Simpson (pictured) then went close glancing a header narrowly wide from Baxter's cross from the left.

Colchester snatched the lead against the run of play after a terrible error from Bouzanis.

The Aussie failed to hold a harmless-looking low cross-cum shot from Andy Bond and Drey Wright fired the loose ball high into the roof of the net.

Baxter had two long-range shots, one clearing the crossbar and the second going straight to keeper Walker.

Barnard then saw his shot easily caught by Walker as Latics pressed for an equaliser.

The U's had the chance to double their lead when Jabo Ibehre cut in from the left and fired just over the crossbar.

Simpson came within a whisker of equalising with a 25-yard drive which dipped narrowly wide.

The visitors then had another clear-cut chance when Drey Wright's shot forced a diving save from Bouzanis.

Half time: Latics 0, Colchester United 1.
