MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Rochdale

17 November 2017

Oldham Athletic take on Rochdale in a local derby in Sky Bet League One tomorrow afternoon.

Latics will be looking to build on a superb 4-1 victory last time out against Newcastle U21’s in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Eoin Doyle and Jack Byrne both netted a brace in the result that saw Oldham move on to the round of 32 in the competition.

Athletic will also be eager to get out on the pitch in League action after the Southend fixture was postponed due to the international break.

Similarly, the visitors will be in equally good condition after their last league match against Wigan Athletic was also postponed for international fixtures.

Rochdale’s last game was a 1-1 with Blackburn Rovers in the Checkatrade Trophy, with Dale picking up a bonus point for the penalty shootout win. Latics boss Richie Wellens had this to say ahead of the big match: “I’m expecting a good football match, Keith Hill is renowned for playing good football.

“I’ve watched some videos of their past games and they have some really tidy footballers so I’m expecting a good football match.

“Keith Hill isn’t scared of changing his system three or four times in a game so tactically it will be interesting, but more than anything it will be a good football match.”

Latics will be without winger Ryan McLaughlin who is still a few weeks from fitness but otherwise Wellens has a fully fit squad. The last encounter saw the two sides draw 1-1 at SportsDierect.com Park.

Midfielder Callum Camps had given Rochdale the lead before captain Peter Clarke levelled the game for Oldham. Sky Bet have listed Athletic as slight favourites for the match at 17/10 with the visitors 8/5 to win.

In form strikers Eoin Doyle and Craig Davies are both priced at 9/2 to score the opening goal of the match, with a repeat of last season’s 1-1 valued at 5/1.
