The 26 year-old goalkeeper joined Latics on a season long loan deal from Sky Bet League One side Doncaster Rovers.
The Dublin born stopper began his career at Manchester City. Lawlor did not make a senior appearance for the Citizens and was sent out on loan to Barnet and Bury to gain experience.
He swapped the Etihad for the Keepmoat stadium in January 2017 and helped Doncaster to promotion from League Two in his first half season with the club, starting 19 of the 21 league games that he was eligible for.
Lawlor made 70 league appearances for Rovers and has been capped for the Republic of Ireland at under-19 and under-21 level.
