MATCH PREVIEW: Oldham Athletic vs. Crewe Alexandra

15 February 2019

Oldham Athletic are back at Boundary Park for their second of three successive home league games, as they take on Crewe Alexandra tomorrow (3pm).

Latics will be looking for their third win on the bounce, but manager Paul Scholes knows it won’t be an easy task against an in-form Crewe side.

"Crewe are a good team, they've won the last four out of five games, have some good players, Chris Porter obviously who was here before, he's a real threat and they've got three or four players who can really play.” He said.

“We're going to have to be ready for it, do what we do most importantly and concentrate on us because I think there's a really talented group of players here and I think we're capable of scoring goals."

Latics are still without long-term absentees Dan Gardner and Ousmane Fane.

Tom Hamer is a doubt for the game after sustaining a back injury in the game against Yeovil Town.

As for Crewe, The Alex have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the trip to Boundary Park, with James Jones still sidelined.

And the side head to Boundary Park looking to maintain their excellent run of form, which sees them, unbeaten in six.

On the 8th December in the reverse fixture superb goals from Peter Clarke and Chris O’Grady gave Oldham the vital points but since then Crewe have won six and drawn two from 11 games.

Last time the sides met at Boundary Park was back in April 2016 where Latics ran out 1-0 winners thanks to a goal from Jonathan Forte.

With Oldham priced at 6/5 to beat Crewe Alexandra.

MATCH REPORT: Latics Left Frustrated By Late Equaliser

16 February 2019

George Ray scored a late equaliser to deny Paul Scholes back to back wins as Oldham Athletic manager.

Callum Lang had put Latics in the lead during the first half, but they couldn’t hold on for the three points as Ray scored in stoppage time.

In truth it was a poor opening ten minutes from both sides as neither team could get a foothold of the game.

It would be Latics who had the first opportunity as Lang laid the ball off to Zak Dearnley to volley from distance, but Ben Garratt managed to hold on to the effort.

Former Oldham Paul Green then had an effort which sailed over the bar before Latics took the lead.

Daniel Iversen quickly hit a long ball forward into the path of Lang who in turn calmly chipped it over Garratt with a difficult finish that he made look easy.

Green then tested Iversen after being played in by Chris Porter, but the Danish goalkeeper managed to parry the effort wide.

Green had another big chance to score after Jordan Bowery headed back across goal, but this time the midfielder managed to somehow poke it wide.

Latics had a big chance to double their lead as Dearnley crossed for Johan Branger-Engone, but he couldn’t get the ball out of his feet before having a shot eventually blocked.

Scholes’ men started the second half brightly with Dearnley heading into the hands of Garratt.

Clarke had a header straight at Garratt from a corner as Latics were seemingly seeing out the game in a comfortable manner.

Crewe had the ball in the net through Green, but Porter was offside in the build before they eventually equalised.

A ball in from Ryan Wintle found Ray who managed to bundle the ball home to leave Latics frustrated at full time.

Next up for Latics is a home game with Morecambe on Tuesday night.
